The short answer

Complete AustralianSuper's Change my details form (sections 1, 2 and 4). Attach a certified copy of your marriage certificate or change of name certificate from Births, Deaths and Marriages.

Upload it at australiansuper.com/upload-document or post it to AustralianSuper, GPO Box 1901, Melbourne VIC 3001. It can't be done in the online account. On the Powered plan, Surname Switch fills the whole form in, signature included.

1 Online or not

Your name needs the form, not the app

AustralianSuper lets you change your email and postal address online, no documents needed. Your name is different. To update your name, gender or date of birth, download AustralianSuper's Change my details form. Send it in with certified proof.

The form is for Super account members.

  • Retirement account (TTR or Choice Income): a separate retirement version of the form applies.
  • Its address: Locked Bag 6, Carlton South VIC 3053.
2 The form

We fill your form in for you

For a change of name, complete sections 1, 2 and 4, in capital letters.

  • Section 1, existing details: your current name, title, date of birth, member number, address, phone and email.
  • Section 2, only what's changing: your new name and title.
  • Section 4: your signature and the date.

On the Powered plan, Surname Switch fills all of that in for you. The only thing we ask for is your AustralianSuper member number.

The "Name" box is ticked. Your new name goes into section 2. Your signature is stamped, with today's date. The form comes back ready to send. Your signature is used in the moment and never kept.

3 The proof

A certified copy of your certificate

Attach a certified copy of your marriage certificate or change of name certificate from Births, Deaths and Marriages. Ceremonial or celebrant certificates are not accepted. Divorce certificates aren't accepted either, as proof of a name change.

The certifier must sight the original and add their details.

  • Sign the copy: "a true and correct copy of the original document sighted."
  • Add their name, location, phone number, qualification and the date.
  • Who can certify: a pharmacist, medical practitioner, lawyer, post office employee, financial adviser or planner, or police officer.
  • Certification must be dated within 6 months. Undated documents are rejected.
4 Sending it

Upload it, or post it

Upload the form and certified copy at australiansuper.com/upload-document, or post them to AustralianSuper, GPO Box 1901, Melbourne VIC 3001. Uploading saves a trip to the post office, and it is the route your plan opens for you.

Where AustralianSuper fits in your name change

Super sits in the money phase of your plan, after your photo ID and government updates, alongside your bank. If you bank with Commonwealth Bank, see our CommBank guide. Our bank-by-bank comparison covers the rest.

Married in Australia? Your marriage certificate is proof, no separate legal step (see our marriage guide). Choosing a brand new name? See our deed poll guide. Going back to a former name? See our divorce guide.

Remember, AustralianSuper does not accept a divorce certificate as proof of a name change.

AustralianSuper is one stop of many. Surname Switch builds one ordered checklist with your real bank, super fund and energy retailer such as Origin Energy. It fills forms where one exists, and drafts AI messages elsewhere.

Your details stay on your device, never our servers. See what each plan includes, or the full checklist in our name change checklist.
