The short answer

Go to Telstra's Change of Name Request form at telstra.com.au/forms/change-of-name-request. Choose Option 1 (old ID plus new ID) or Option 2 (an Australian-issued name change document), enter your old and new name, upload and submit.

One request covers internet, mobile and home phone. Questions? Call 13 22 00.

1 The path

Telstra's Change of Name Request form

Telstra updates your name through one online form. Go to telstra.com.au/forms/change-of-name-request, then enter your old and new name.

Choose your evidence, upload your documents and submit. There is no branch visit needed, and one request covers internet, mobile and home phone.

2 Have ready

Your evidence and your account number

Telstra accepts two kinds of evidence:

  • Option 1: a copy of an ID in your old name plus a copy of an ID in your new name.
  • Option 2: an official document showing your name changed, such as a marriage certificate, change of name certificate or deed poll, issued in Australia.

Married or changed your name overseas? Your document does not qualify for Option 2, so use Option 1 instead. Your account number is at the top of your bill or in the My Telstra app. Stuck? Call 13 22 00.

3 Your plan

A custom plan with your actual companies

Surname Switch does not hand you a generic list. You pick your real internet and mobile carrier. If Telstra covers both, your plan shows Telstra by name for each, next to your real bank and super fund, in the right order.

Telstra sits in the home and utilities phase, after your photo ID, government and money updates. One Telstra account often covers internet, mobile and home phone, so the same steps apply across your services.

4 The message

We write your message with AI

Would rather write a message than fill in Telstra's form? On the Powered plan, tap Draft my email on your Telstra card.

AI writes a clear, polite name change message. Telstra has no published support email on our records, so it opens with the address blank, ready for you to fill in, or to use as a script in My Telstra live chat.

You review it, then copy it or open it straight in Mail, Gmail or Outlook, and send it yourself. Your details stay on your device, never on our servers.

Where Telstra fits in your name change

Internet and mobile are among the easier updates, so your plan leaves Telstra until the home and utilities phase.

By then your ID and money are sorted: your bank, such as Commonwealth Bank, and super fund, such as AustralianSuper. Government records, such as Medicare and the electoral roll, and your energy retailer, such as Origin Energy, come before it too.

Married in Australia? Your marriage certificate is proof, no separate legal step (see our marriage guide). Choosing a brand new name? See our deed poll guide. Going back to a former name? See our divorce guide.

Telstra is one stop of many. Surname Switch builds one ordered checklist with your real bank, super fund, energy retailer and telco. It points you to the right form and drafts a message where one helps.

See what each plan includes. Your details stay on your device, never on our servers. The full checklist lives in our name change checklist.
