ING name change

How to change your name with ING

ING has no branches and no online self-service for a legal name change. The only path is the Change of Personal Details form, sent by email or post.

The short answer

Fill in ING's Change of Personal Details form with your account number, your previous name and your new name, tick your reason for the change, and sign it. Get your proof certified by a JP, an accountant or an Australia Post agent, then email the lot to personal.details.au@ing.com or post it to ING, Reply Paid 2682, Sydney NSW 2001.

ING has no branches. On the Powered plan, Surname Switch fills the whole form in, both signatures included, and ticks the right reason and documents for your situation.

1 One path

No branch, no app toggle. Just the form

ING is a branchless bank, and unlike most other digital banks its app does not let you edit a legal name yourself either. For a marriage, a new name or reverting to a former one, the Change of Personal Details form is the only route in.

It sounds like more work than tapping a button. In practice it is one form, filled in once, sent by email or post.

2 The form

We fill your form in for you

ING's form asks for your client or account number, then your previous name and your new name side by side, with a signature box next to each one.

On the Powered plan, Surname Switch fills every field from the details you enter once, and stamps both signature boxes: your old one if it has changed, or the same signature twice if it has not. The form comes back ready to send. Your signature is used in the moment and never kept.

3 Only you know

Your reason, ticked correctly

ING's form asks WHY your name changed, with a separate document rule for each answer, and Surname Switch never guesses which one applies.

  • Married in Australia or overseas: tick Marriage and attach your marriage certificate.
  • A brand new name: tick Change of name and attach your change of name certificate or deed poll.
  • Reverting to a former name: ING wants your birth certificate PLUS the document that links your former name to your current one, such as a marriage certificate or decree nisi. We ask which one you have, then tick both boxes.
4 Sending it

Certified once, sent one of two ways

Take your proof of the change to a Justice of the Peace, an accountant with 2 or more years of current practice, or an Australia Post agent, who can certify a copy for free at most post offices.

Scan the signed form with the certified copy and email both to personal.details.au@ing.com, which is the address ING's own form nominates. Or post both to ING, Reply Paid 2682, Sydney NSW 2001, no stamp needed. Call 133 464 if you have questions. New cards are issued in your new name once it is processed.

Where ING fits in your name change

Your bank sits early in the money phase of your plan, usually alongside your super fund and any share trading account. If your bank is Commonwealth Bank or AMP Bank, see our CommBank guide or AMP Bank guide. Our bank-by-bank comparison covers the rest, including super with our AustralianSuper guide and share trading with our nabtrade guide.

Married in Australia? Your marriage certificate is proof, no separate legal step (see our marriage guide). Choosing a brand new name? See our deed poll guide. Going back to a former name? See our divorce guide.

Remember, ING needs a certified copy, not a plain photocopy, and both signature boxes filled in even if your signature has not changed.

ING is one stop of many. Surname Switch builds one ordered checklist with your real bank, super fund and investment platform. It fills forms where one exists, and drafts AI messages elsewhere.

Your details stay on your device, never our servers. See what each plan includes, or the full checklist in our name change checklist.

ING name change questions

Your questions, answered

Straight answers to what people ask about changing their name with ING.

How do I change my name with ING?

Fill in ING's Change of Personal Details form with your account number, your previous name and your new name, tick your reason for the change, and sign it. Attach a certified copy of your proof and email both to personal.details.au@ing.com, or post them to ING, Reply Paid 2682, Sydney NSW 2001.

Can I change my name with ING online, or at a branch?

No. ING has no branches and its app and online banking do not offer a legal name change. The Change of Personal Details form, sent by email or post, is the only path.

What documents does ING need for a name change?

It depends on your reason. A marriage in Australia or overseas needs your marriage certificate. A new name needs your change of name certificate or deed poll. Reverting to a former name needs your birth certificate plus the document that links your former name to your current one, such as a marriage certificate or decree nisi.

Who can certify my documents for ING?

A Justice of the Peace, an accountant with 2 or more years of current practice (a CPA or CA), or an Australia Post agent, who can certify copies for free at most post offices.

Do I need to sign the form twice?

ING's form has two signature boxes, one beside your previous name and one beside your new name. If your signature has not changed, the same signature goes in both. If it has changed, sign your old signature in the previous-name box and your new one in the new-name box.

Can Surname Switch fill in the ING form for me?

Yes. On the Powered plan, Surname Switch fills in ING's Change of Personal Details form from the details you enter once: your account number, your previous and new name, your title, and the reason for the change, with the matching document boxes ticked. Both signature boxes are stamped and dated. Your details stay on your device and your signature is never kept.

What is ING's phone number?

ING is on 133 464 if you have questions about updating your name.
